Introduction to Divisional Charts (Vargas)

Divisional charts, also known as Vargas, play a crucial role in Vedic Astrology. They help in fine-tuning predictions by analyzing different aspects of life in greater detail. The concept of Vargas is deeply discussed in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (BPHS), Uttara Kalamrita, and Phal Deepika.

Each divisional chart represents a specific area of life, and their interpretation adds depth to the standard D1 (Rashi Chart) analysis. The accuracy of divisional charts depends highly on the precise birth time.

Divisional Chart Calculation & Concept

The 360ยฐ zodiac is divided into various sections, and planets are assigned new positions in each Varga chart based on mathematical calculations. The exact formula varies for each chart, but they all derive from dividing a sign into smaller parts.

How Are Divisional Charts Created?

Each sign (30ยฐ) is divided into smaller segments, and planets are repositioned accordingly.

For example:

  • In the Navamsa (D9) chart, each sign is divided into 9 equal parts of 3ยฐ20′ each.
  • In the Dashamsa (D10) chart, each sign is divided into 10 parts of 3ยฐ each.

Classification of Divisional Charts (Vargas)

According to BPHS, 16 main divisional charts (Shodasha Varga) are significant, but there are other extended Vargas used for finer analysis.
