Astrology as a Performing Art?

After spending many years delving into both the academic and practical aspects of astrology, I came to understand that this divine knowledge—originally the wisdom of seers—serves as a guiding force on the path to salvation. Initially, I perceived astrology as a blend of art and science, firmly believing in its dual nature. However, my journey was filled with questions—questions that a conventional astrologer could not answer. These deeper inquiries will be addressed at a later stage.

At the outset, I was like a scalar unit—possessing the velocity to acquire knowledge but lacking a clear direction. It was only by the grace of the Almighty that I came into contact with AstroMaster U.K. Jha. His mentorship reshaped my understanding of astrology, instilling in me a newfound respect for this sacred discipline. Under his guidance, I learned that astrology is not merely a collection of predictions but a structured, logical, and pious system developed by great sages. It has its own grammar and foundational principles, allowing an adept to decode verses based on prerequisites, functionalities, and probabilistic outcomes.

The Trinity of Astrology

Astrology, in its true essence, operates through a trinity:

  1. Prerequisites – The foundational conditions necessary for any astrological formulation. This involves the interplay of houses, planets, and signs.
  2. Functionality – The dynamic aspect of astrology, where the course of life is influenced by external and internal factors such as Maya, Shadripu (six internal enemies: desire, anger, greed, attachment, pride, and jealousy), and karmic patterns.
  3. End Result – The outcome, which is ultimately shaped by how the embedded codes in ancient texts interact with an individual’s unique chart and circumstances.

By delving into these embedded codes within the core texts, one can decipher deeper meanings and predictive insights. However, the current landscape of astrology has undergone a transformation—one that raises important questions about its role and integrity.

The Shift Towards Performance-Based Astrology

In recent times, astrology has evolved into a performing art, particularly due to the rise of monetization through social media, virtual classes, and consultancy services. The focus has shifted from understanding and preserving its sanctity to showcasing proficiency and stardom before an audience—the clients.

This shift prompts an important question: Has astrology turned into a performance for the end-user rather than a tool for genuine guidance? The need to maintain online presence, attract followers, and monetize knowledge has led many practitioners to prioritize presentation over substance. As a result, astrology has entered an era of what can be termed designer astrology—a version tailored for mass appeal rather than rooted in authentic wisdom.

While there is nothing wrong with earning through astrology, the concern lies in the commercialization of this sacred knowledge at the cost of its purity. In this performance-centric era, the depth and rigor of astrological study risk being overshadowed by the need for popularity, leading to potential distortions and misinterpretations.

To Be Continued…

This discussion is far from over. As we explore further, we will examine the implications of this transformation, its impact on practitioners and clients, and the ways to restore astrology’s original purpose as a guiding and enlightening force rather than a mere spectacle for entertainment.

The journey continues…
