Let’s take a practical example of calculating and analyzing a Special Dasha from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. We’ll use Dwisaptati Sama Dasha (72-year cycle) for this case, which is used when the Ascendant (Lagna) is in a Dual sign (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, or Pisces).

Example Birth Details:

  • Date of Birth: 5th June 1985
  • Time of Birth: 10:30 AM
  • Place: xxxxxx, India
  • Ascendant (Lagna): Gemini
  • Moon Sign (Rashi): Virgo
  • Strongest House (Bhava Madhya Strength Analysis): 10th house (Career and Karma)

Step 1: Checking Eligibility for Dwisaptati Sama Dasha

  • The Ascendant is Gemini, which is a Dual Sign .
  • Dwisaptati Sama Dasha applies only when Lagna is in Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, or Pisces.

Since Gemini is a Dual sign, this Dasha is applicable.

Step 2: Identifying the Starting Sign

  • According to BPHS, the first Dasha starts from the strongest house (1st, 5th, 9th, or 10th house).
  • Based on Bhava Strength Calculation, the 10th house is the strongest.
  • In this chart, the 10th house is Pisces.

Thus, the Dasha cycle starts from Pisces.

Step 3: Assigning Dasha Periods

The total Dwisaptati Sama Dasha cycle is 72 years, and each sign gets a duration based on the strength of its ruling planet.

Step 4: Interpretation of Dashas

Now, let’s analyze what each period represents:

  1. Pisces Dasha (1985 – 1997)
    • Jupiter rules Pisces, indicating education, wisdom, and expansion.
    • During this period, the person likely had a strong focus on studies and spiritual learning.
  2. Aquarius Dasha (1997 – 2007)
    • Ruled by Saturn, indicating discipline and struggle.
    • Likely a tough phase in career building but with structured growth.
  3. Capricorn Dasha (2007 – 2016)
    • Again ruled by Saturn, indicating hard work, responsibilities, and career establishment.
    • This period could have been critical for job stability and financial growth.
  4. Sagittarius Dasha (2016 – 2027)
    • Ruled by Jupiter, indicating expansion, travel, and wisdom.
    • If Sagittarius is linked with the 7th house, this could indicate marriage and international opportunities.
  5. Scorpio Dasha (2027 – 2035)
    • Ruled by Mars, indicating aggressive transformation.
    • Possible career shift or property gains.

Step 5: Future Predictions Using Dasha

  • Current Dasha (2024): Sagittarius (2016-2027)
    • Since Jupiter rules Sagittarius, this period is good for career expansion, foreign travel, and spiritual growth.
    • If Sagittarius rules the 10th house, this indicates major career breakthroughs.
  • Upcoming Dasha (2027-2035): Scorpio
    • Ruled by Mars, which brings bold decisions, risk-taking, and transformational changes.
    • If Scorpio is linked to the 8th house, the person may face sudden life changes or inheritances.

Conclusion

  • Dwisaptati Sama Dasha provided a clear timeline of major life events.
  • The transition from Jupiter (expansion) → Saturn (hard work) → Jupiter (growth) shows the importance of karmic cycles.
  • Future predictions can be made based on Dasha-Lagna relationships.
